Children of The Boys and Girls Club Go Fishing with C.A.S.T.
Fort Myers Beach, Florida, June 25, 2008 - “I can't believe I caught a this big fish” said Kira Gandy, age 9 caught her first trout, Nate Gunnin, age 15 and brother Brandon Gunnin 7 achieved an 19 inch flounder with Captain Sparky Sprague of Naples, Florida”. “I caught a black tip Shark, how cool is that” said Lukas Littlefield age 10”, as Captain Mike Zgrabik released the fish back to the water. C.A.S.T or Catch A Special Thrill, a non-profit group that introduces both disadvantaged and disabled children to fishing through events such as the one on Saturday at The Pink Shell Resort and Spa. It was the first event this international group has done in the state Florida , the fishing capital of the World.
Art Pasley, the Eastern Director of C.A.S.T. said “This was the most outstanding 1 st time event I have ever seen since 1995 with the efforts made by Sandy Kostick, of IDEAS, Event Planning and her team. We Plan to have several through out Florida thanks to everyone's efforts”. Keith White of The Boys and Girls club brought 45 kids whom had never been fishing or on a boat got a thrill of a lifetime, along with a rod, reel, tackle box, t-shirts and hats to take with them to continue the sport. Captain Bob Pasqual of PURRE, People United to Restore our Rivers and Estuaries smiled passing out t-shirts and teaching the kids about future protection of our waterways. “It is all about the kids, they hold our future”.
The event on Saturday June 23, 2007 at The Pink Shell Beach Resort who was gracious enough to provide the Marina and breakfast for all the volunteers and kids, Gasparilla's Grill provided the bagged lunches, Sarah Ashton of Remax supplied all the bottled waters, Karl Zimmerman of Dolphin Boats who brought out his boats and Fishing Team recent Celebrity Captains Al Keller and Bill Faulkner, writer for Florida Sportsman and winners of the ESPN Redfish Cup 2007. Zimmerman, “ I am proud to be part of this event and plan to continue to support them, seeing the smiles on their faces is what it is all about”. Long time Pro Celebrity Captain Bo Johnson of Lake and Bay Boats came out to fish the kids along with Gary Anderson of Island Anglers, Venice Fishing Club, Reel Addiction Sportfishing and many other Captains coming as far as Miami . Bait was provided by The Bait Box on Sanibel Island Florida . Supplies and Food transportation was of the efforts of Murty & Monk PA.
A surprise dinner was extended to the 75 kids and parents of the Boys and Girls Club by Pinchers Crab Shack where they cooled off with some yummy food. “I cannot thank the community, volunteers and media enough for their support, the most exciting news I heard at the end of the event, was………….when can we do it again? We are tentatively planning a silent auction July 20 th at The Tween Waters Resort on Captiva Island to recoup funds lost from the past event and need sponsorship the next fishing opportunity for the kids, July 21 st 2007 . The Boys and Girls Club tell me they have over 1700 kids that would love to be a part of the future events.
