Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa Honors Earth Hour with Lights Dimmed

Fort Myers Beach, Florida, March 24, 2010 – Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa announced today that they will turn off all public non-essential lighting for Earth Hour at 8:30 PM on Saturday, March 27. Pink Shell made a pledge in 2008 to support the environment by becoming the first resort on the Fort Myers and Sanibel Beaches to become a Green Lodging Resort. To continue their promise, Pink Shell will participate in this worldwide event called Earth Hour. This will be a fun and meaningful event for their resort guests with a live DJ for dancing and games on the pool deck that will be lit by Tiki torches and glow sticks.

Scheduled events include:

Earth Hour Event on the Octopool Deck from 5pm-9:30pm
Live DJ from 5pm-9:30pm
Signature cocktails at Bongo’s Bar can be enjoyed to toast the sunset at 7:45pm
Opening Ceremonies at 8:15 PM. Includes a viewing of a touching video from EarthHour.org which shows lights going out around the world in support of last year’s Earth Hour event.
Lights out from 8:30pm-9:30pm.

Earth Hour, which takes place Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 PM local time, is an event in which millions of Americans will turn out their lights for one hour in support of action on climate change and toward creating a cleaner, safer and more secure future. 2010 marks the third year of the event, which attracted more than 80 million participants in the U.S. last year and nearly a billion people around the world, as lights dimmed on such global icons as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sydney’s Opera House, the Great Pyramids of Gaza and New York’s Empire State Building.

Notable U.S. landmarks such as Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, St. Louis’ Gateway Arch, Sea World in Orlando, the strip in Las Vegas, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Washington D.C.’s National Cathedral, California’s Santa Monica Pier and the Space Needle in Seattle are among the hundreds of sites that will turn off non-essential lighting for the hour, in what is expected to be the largest-ever call to action on climate change.

Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa is the premier choice of Fort Myers hotels for couples and families where the only thing we overlook is the beach.
