About our Fort Myers Beach Hotel
Pink Shell Beach Resort History
Bob and Jenavive Davis vacationed with their 2 children (Bob, Jr. and Roxanne) to Fort Myers Beach in 1953. They instanly fell in love with the beautiful white sandy beach. At the time, there were only 10 cottages on the entire north end of the island. Bob paid $250 per foot of beachfront property. He later traded a piece of his lot and some cash, to his neighbor, for a cottage. This was Bob’s gift to his wife for Christmas. He began renting his cottage to his relatives and realized how lucrative this venture could become. Lot by lot, cottage by cottage, the Pink Shell began to grow.
In 1968, Roxie Smith, Bob and Jenavive’s daughter, and her husband Paul became owners and the first full time managers of the property. They sold their business to their close friends, the Mariners, who would keep their vision of the future.
The first building, built by the Davis’s was called the Sand Patch Hotel. Returning guests, who stayed with us way back when, are referred to as "Sand Patchers". The original swimming pool located on property is completely finished but unseen by eyes. It is buried on the bay side under the Harbor Master building. The original grocery and deli store was called the "Pink Pantry".
This little piece of paradise is 12 acres in all. Its unique feature is the Matanzas Pass on one side of the island and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. Few resorts can offer that kind of familiarity with the back bays, estuaries rich with life and the gulf with all of its riches.
In 1998, the Boykin Lodging Company bought the Pink Shell. There are 3 cottages left from the original fifty-six (56). You can see them on the bay side of the Pink Shell property. 32 of the cherished cottages were sold to a real estate investor turned minister to provide affordable housing for deserving families. In 2004, the White Sand Villas building was completed, followed by the Captiva Villas building in 2007.
The Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina offers studios, one & two bedroom accommodations, meeting facilities, Aquagene Spa; Floribbean cuisine at Bongo’s and fun activities for the whole family. Welcome to the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina where The Only Thing We Overlook Is The Beach!
